One of Albania’s oldest cities and the
country’s main sea port, Durres lies on a small peninsula
on the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
The city is well known as a beach resort with
wonderful sand and warm sea water.

2nd Century Ampitheatre
Located in Durres, approximately 40 minutes from Tirana, this is
the largest amphitheatre in the Balkans. It is possible to enter
the vaults below the seats and see the tunnel through which the
gladiators entered the arena, and the pens where lions were kept.
There is also an early Christian crypt with a rare wall mosaic of
saints and angels.
