Languages

In addition to Albanian, Greek and Italian are the main languages spoken by the people of Saranda, most people also speak English.

Currency

The national currency of Albania is the Lek although Euros are now widely accepted. Albania deals mostly in cash and foreign currency can be exchanged for Lek very easily in Saranda. The easiest currencies to change are Euros and US dollars. Currently it is not possible to buy or sell Lek outside Albania.

Restaurants, bars and clubs

There are many bars and restaurants in and around Saranda as well as several nightclubs. Albania is a tip-conscious society, a reasonable tip is approximately 10% in restaurants.

There are two internet cafes located in Saranda.

Time Zone

Albania is one hour ahead of the UK (n.b. Corfu is two hours ahead of UK; one hour ahead of Albania).

Medical

There is a hospital in the main town of Saranda.
No specific inoculations are required for travel to Albania.
It is recommended that you have adequate medical cover included in your travel insurance.
